I’m fairly certain that this summer I hit an all-time low with my health. I was overweight, out of shape and generally felt like a slug, not to mention that putting on my clothes resembled something similar to stuffing a sausage.
I had little to no energy when I started my day and wanted nothing more than to bury myself under the covers every time I heard the alarm sound. I was eating poorly, grabbing whatever was available that I could eat quickly and most likely, in the car. It was bad. I had gotten out of control.
Of course, this summer I was also facing a milestone birthday. You know, the kind that starts with a four and ends with a zero.
I had no idea what I needed to do, but knew that I needed to do something and that something was going to require changing a lot of things about my daily habits.
In late June, a dear friend of mine told me about the ONE Solution program. Two weeks in and she was already experiencing her own remarkable successes. So there it was, that something that I knew that I needed to do. After all, my benchmark birthday was speeding toward me and my clothes weren’t exactly fitting any better.
I met with Leigh Ann to discuss my goals, which for me were pretty simple: reboot, lose 20 pounds, and feel better. She listened, and I mean really listened, and built a plan to help me achieve my goals.
Honestly, I was not sure exactly how the food plan part would work for me especially given my sincere love of beer and my regular consumption of it.
I was scared. Really, I was. I mean, how could I do this complete 180 with my eating and drinking habits for six whole weeks? I couldn’t even remember the last time I had omitted anything intentionally from my diet for more than three days.
Leigh Ann told me when I met with her for our goal-setting, that I could do it. I lost count in the days and weeks that followed of how many times that she told me that; that I could do it. I lost count of the motivational messages, texts and conversations during those weeks. But, here is what I do know, that there is no way that I could have transformed my health, my habits, and my life on my own.
Leigh Ann and the staff of ONE guided and motivated me through this six-week intensive program that did far more than I expected. That is, I knew that for six weeks of my life that I’d give up foods that had become habitual and dedicate 4-5 hours per week working out at ONE. But, what I didn’t expect is how easily my new food and fitness choices would become my new (and happy) normal. I actually started enjoying preparing new, healthier food options. I started looking forward to my time at the gym. Most importantly, I started to feel better – I mean really feel better. I had more energy, more stamina, slept better, and my overall mood was significantly improved.
So, 14 weeks after making that initial ONE Solution commitment, my total weight loss was 26 pounds. 4 months later, the weight is STILL GONE.
I feel better than I’ve felt in at least a decade and have absolutely no desire to eat, drink and behave like I did before this program. It’s just not worth it. I am immensely grateful for the support of the people ONE and intend to ensure that I continue to make 40 look and feel fabulous.
